About Us
Our love story with dogs began in the 1940s. My grandmother’s fox terrier called “Fred” survived on
table scraps, which at that time was a common way to feed your pet.
As our human family expanded, so did our furry family. From the 1940s to the present our family has included Kelpies, Fox Terriers, German Shepherds, Cattle Dogs, Labradors, Old English Sheep Dogs, Rottweilers, Toy Poodles, Labradoodles, Irish Wolfhounds, Toy Poodles, Giant Schnauzers and King Charles Cavaliers. From our family photographs, you can see our deep love for our dogs.
With a lifetime of dog ownership, we’ve learned much about common complaints that made us frequent the vet. We have had dogs on food-elimination diets, hypoallergenic diets, sensitive tummy diets, vet-prescribed diets, and diabetic-friendly diets. We have had our dogs on medication for allergies, itchy coats, ear infections, and insulin. All recommendations our family has been given over the years from vets, we have explored. From vet fees, laboratory testing, prescriptions, and “premium” dog food our family had spent a big chunk of our income on our fur babies.
When our chocolate lab was diagnosed with diabetes, we started questioning the nutritional value of the commercial pet food we fed our dogs. Closely reading the packaging we were shocked to find that the dog food was highly processed, with different additives, fillers and words we didn’t recognise. We were so angry with the misleading packaging, and the lack of legitimately healthy options, that we decided to make our own dog food.
